Thanks to all you amazing kind people and Pamela, Aman, Pat and Brian on KALYMNOS , who give up there time and effort to do wonderful work for the suffering strays.

Best wishes to you all, Steven Todd.

Fundraiser Results Autumn 2019

During the autumn I ran a Facebook fundraiser going to help the stray animals of the Greek island of Kalymnos, due to very kind & caring people, many sick and injured strays were treated and saved from further suffering. The fundraiser was primarily to raise money for kittens born with eye problems which is very frequent as it is caused by chlamydia passed from their mothers – but the money was also raised to help any sick and injured stray animal. Myself as well as the Kalymnos Animal Welfare Group want to sincerely thank anybody and everybody who helped this fundraiser effort by donating, liking, sharing and commenting the posts on my page and the page of the group.

Thanks to all of you many animals were treated & healed, and their suffering was greatly reduced – Please see some photos of what was going on during the treatment of these animals attached to this post. You can also find a link to a full album with all of the photos – please be aware there are some graphic images – this is the reality of the state of animal welfare on the island.

A very special thanks to Vasso & Matoula our vets in Kalymnos for all of their kind caring & hard work. I personally would like to thank the following people who gave amazing help and time on their holidays to treat sick and injured animals this autumn and their wish to help raise funds for our future projects, they also helped pay some of the vet fees for treatment as well as making donations: Christine from Norway, Claudia & Kurt from Germany, Richard & his girlfriend from France, Johnathan and Malin from Ireland & Sweeden, Heli from Finland, Helen from England – without all of your help and kindness we could never have achieved so much this year!

There has been great progress made this year through fundraising to treat sick animals on the island as well as to run sterilisation programmes.

Please find linked to this post a photo album so you can see the animals for yourselves – at their worst as well as getting better.

Funding & Progress in Kalymnos 2019

The Kalymnos Animal Welfare Group have had some amazing help this year in the form of three grants for sterilisation and equipment for animal care – this has enabled us to sterilise in areas from people who requested help controlling the number of stray cats in a humane way.

This is vital in order to maintain healthy cat colonies and reduce the illnesses, disease and suffering that the strays of the island are affected by.

Big thanks to Greek Animal Rescue UK (Registered Charity) & Greek Cat Welfare Society UK (Registered Charity) – for the sterilisation grants – as well as many thanks to SNIP International (Registered Charity) for an equipment grant (Crush Cages, Traps) all three of these organisations help of vital importance and value in continuing the work we do in animal welfare and rescue.

I would also like to give great thanks to two of the vets we work with in Kalymnos carrying out this vital work – Vasso & Matoula – the rescue and medical aid work we do would not be possible without them.

Apart from this – we have been doing as much fundraising as possible as the grants do not cover medical expenses for sick & injured animals.

We are looking forward to posting updates showing how these grants have been used with photos of the animals saved.

The Story Of Scrappy & Coco

During April this year, 2019 – A tourist climber in Kalymnos found two little stray kittens with terrible eye infections in the main town, Beverely who found the two kittens contacted myself, Steve of the Kalymnos Animal Welfare Group after she had taken the pair to the vet for treatment, I was asked to look after them until she could return later in the year when they were older to give them a new home in england –

Scrappy & Coco

Unfortunately the female kitten, Coco was too poorly, strays unfortunately are unvaccinated and in spite of tender care she did not make it . The male Scrappy survived and enjoyed his time in the cat sanctuary, playing with other rescued cats and made great friends with a rescued dog 007 – they even shared a bed! (You can read the story of 007 on our website).

Scrappy lost one eye – but his second eye recovered fully – He is a one eyed kitten! there are many one eyed and blind stray cats in Greece & in Kalymnos due to eye infections, if these cats can be found and given help early enough – eye drops costing only £2.30 / €2.50 restore their sight and give them their quality of life back.

Scrappys Eye Getting Better

After Scrappy spent some time recovering at our cat sanctuary in Kalymnos – Beverly got back in toucch and came to visit in July 2019 – and Scrappy set out on a journey to Yorkshire, England where he has a lovely new home living safely with Beverly and other animals!

Scrappy in his new home!

Scrappy is a lucky one. We are in desperate need of financial aid to make stories like this a reality for the stray injured and ill cats of the island of Kalymnos, to give them sanctuary and a safe home on the island.

Please our facebook page facebook.com/kalymnoscats, to find out more about the work we do & to donate – you can also use the donate link at the top of this page to give via PayPal.

The story of 007 the Kalymnos dog (& Mouse)!

This is a picture of 007 with his friend Mouse, he is one of the most famous dogs in Kalymnos, he was a stray found in a terrible condition found in 2017 – by a family on holiday on the island. They wanted to take him back to their country but in the end decided against it, The family found out about us the Kalymnos Animal Welfare Group from the local Vet – I was caring for 007 originally until the family was to take him back home with them but after the family changed their mind I took him into my care for a few months until finding him a home with a Kalymnian woman where he now lives his new life! He returns often to me for his holiday!

007 was one of the lucky ones, he was a stray, in terrible condition, sick, weak & starving – Without the families intervention and the Kalymnos Animal Welfare group to rescue and care for him, he would have surely starved and died of his illnesses.

Mouse is 007’s friend pictured, they are very close and go for walks together, Mouse is another rescue from the Kalymnos Animal Welfare Group – He was found as a kitten left in a wheelie bin 7 years ago (2012) he now lives a happy healthy life in the garden of our Cat Sanctuary and enjoys every time his best friend 007 visits!

Without funding none of these rescues of sickly animals being able to live a happy and healthy life!

We Are Desperately In Need Of Funds Now!
